The Pittsburgh Steelers signed tight end Matt Spaeth this offseason after he left Pittsburgh after the 2010 season for a two year stint with the Chicago Bears, but he was brought back in large part because of the uncertainty the team has at the position because of the health of Heath Miller.

Spaeth was penciled in as the week one starter while Miller gets 100 percent, but it looks like the team could be scrambling to find a starting tight end after Spaeth was injured during Wednesday’s practice session.

From Mark Kaboly of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review:

Miller and David Johnson are currently on the PUP list and the uncertainty of Spaeth’s status delivers a serious blow to the team’s tight end depth.

If Spaeth is unable to go for the start of the season, David Paulson could get the start. He is currently the only healthy tight end on the team with actual game experience.
