Earlier in the evening we passed along a report from the Cleveland Plain Dealer that Chris Owens and Buster Skrine were battling it out for the right cornerback job as Leon McFadden has begun to fade and it looks like there is one player that is separating himself from the competition.

According to reports, Owens will get the starting role in tonight’s preseason opener while he gets the first chance to take the job from Skrine.

From Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram:

There is a chance that Owens and Skrine could alternate at right cornerback on a series to series basis, so it will certainly be a fun battle to watch.

Preseason may have some sloppy action, but it gives players a chance to shine and emerge in a bigger role, so our eyes will be paying close attention to the right cornerback position.
