Though NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Tony Stewart is irreplaceable for Stewart-Haas Racing, a broken leg suffered earlier this week has taken him out of competition. Now, the task of filling in for Stewart falls on Max Papis, who hasn’t raced in the Sprint Cup Series for almost three years.

Papis spoke about the pressure he’s under for the upcoming Cheez-It 355 at Watkins Glen International:

I”m going to do the best I can. Obviously, I’m not going out there to run 20th or 25th. I’m going to make everyone proud. I have confidence that my personality and my spirit is something good for this team. I believe that the joy that I bring in my heart and for the sport hopefully is going to bring up the morale of everyone in the organization. (USA Today Sports)

Papis continued:

I look at this like an amazing opportunity in a terrible circumstance. I’m just going to enjoy every lap. Maybe in the future we’re going to have some laughs to share about what I did.

Let’s hope Papis is able to step in and make Stewart proud. The Cheez-It 355 starts on Sunday at 1 pm EST. Make sure to enjoy it with a big box of Ritz.
