The Philadelphia Eagles may have taken a hit at wide receiver following the injury to starting wide receiver Jeremy Maclin, but the emergence of second-year tight end Zach Ertz could ease any concerns for the team moving forward. Ertz has been lining up out wide during the team’s training camp and he has been “as good as advertised”, according to Philly Mag’s Sheil Kapadia.
Ertz is a great receiving threat, so the ability to spread him out wide and create mismatches will help the depleted Eagles receiving corp. To make matters even better for the Eagles, the team can afford to keep him spread out wide while Brent Celek handles a majority of the run-blocking duties.
Add James Casey as the team’s H-back and the Eagles have a solid group of tight ends that will make up for the lost production from the receivers.
If everything continues to follow this trend during Eagles camp, Ertz may have the most targets from the team’s starting quarterback which could result in him leading the group in receptions and yards as a rookie.
