Paul Pierce, one of the newest acquisitions for the Brooklyn Nets, said some big things on Thursday. He fully believes that the Nets will be the premier team in New York this upcoming season.

On ESPN New York’s 98.7 FM radio show, “The Michael Kay Show,” Pierce said exactly what was on his mind.

"I think the hate [for the Knicks] has grown a little. Everybody knows how much I disliked the Knicks when I was with the Celtics, but I think it’s grown to another level. I think it’s time for the Nets to start running this city."

He also thinks that the Knicks/Nets rivalry will be on of the biggest in sports for years to come. I, for one, am starting to agree. I think as long as Carmelo stays with the Knicks, the rivalry with the Nets will be a good one. Both teams have seen their dominance, and it’s obvious that Melo makes the Knicks much better than they would be without him on the court. It will also be interesting with the new Nets lineup, with a new coach who just finished the season with the Knicks, as well as three key pieces from Boston.

Lucky for us, the two teams will meet four times during the upcoming 2013-14 regular season, with the first meeting on December 5th.

What do you think? I’m interested to hear from both New Yorkers and non-New Yorkers alike. Let me know in the comments below!
