Albert Pujols facing PED allegations
By Josh Sanchez
Los Angeles Angels designated hitter Albert Pujols has faced some questions about performance-enhancing drug use in the past, but now the slugger is facing some more direct accusations from former MLB player and current radio show host Jack Clark.
Dan Caesar of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch passed along comments from Clark that took place during his show with co-host Kevin Slaten at WGNU 920 AM.
"Clark has brought Pujols’ situation up at least twice already on the air. The first time, after Slaten said last Friday that he long has believed that Pujols “has been a juicer,” Clark jumped in before Slaten finished his thought and said, “I know for a fact he was. The trainer that worked with him, threw him batting practice from Kansas City, that worked him out every day, basically told me that’s what he did.”Clark then talked about a conversation he had about a dozen years ago with Chris Mihlfeld, who has worked as a conditioner with several major-league organizations. (Both men were with the Dodgers then, and Pujols was early in his career.)Mihlfeld “had told me what he was doing with ‘Poolie’ — threw him batting practice, worked him out, shot him up, all that stuff,” Clark said on the air."
As you would expect, Pujols’ agent declined to comment on the allegations.
Mihlfeld was also the trainer for Jason Grimsley, who has admitted PED use in the past. The last time Mihlfeld came up to Pujols, he immediately responded but this time he is taking a more calculated approach.
While Clark can be a bit abrasive at times, he is not some random guy throwing around his opinion. He has talked to people in the know and he firmly believes in what he says.
With the current state of baseball and how the Biogenesis scandal has gone down, the last thing Bud Selig wants to face is even more steroid talk in his sport.
