Minnesota Twins activate Josh Willingham, place Ryan Doumit on disabled list

The Minnesota Twins have played outfielder/catcher Ryan Doumit on the 7 day disabled list, retroactive to August 8th, with a concussion.

Doumit left Wednesday’s game after experience nausea. He will be required to miss a week of action, but with concussions, there is actually no timetable for his return.

With Doumit being placed on the disabled list, the Twins have activated outfielder Josh Willingham from the 15 day disabled list.

Willingham had been slated for activation on Saturday, then was supposed to be back with the Twins before the second game of their double header today, but it turns out Willingham may be available for both games today.

The veteran outfielder has been sidelined since early July following arthroscopic surgery on his right knee.

The returning Twin is batting .224 with a .754 OPS, 10 home runs, 37 RBI’s in 246 plate appearances in 70 games with the major league ball club this season.

Minnesota and Chicago start a double header today in Chicago, a division battle between the two teams at the bottom of the American League Central.

Minnesota sits at 49-62, being 18 games out of first place, while Chicago sits at 43-69, being 24.5 games out of first place.
