According to Jim Thomas on Twitter, St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher revealed that right tackle Rodger Saffold dislocated his left shoulder in Thursday night’s pre-season open and is expected to be sidelined a couple pre-season games.

He landed awkwardly on his arm after attempted to block Cleveland Browns linebacker Paul Kruger, where he later walked to the locker room and did not return to the game.

It’s a more serious injury than Saffold and Fisher indicated, but not one that should threaten the right tackles status for Week 1 of the regular season. Saffold is in a contract year for the St. Louis Rams and needs to show the Rams or teams across the league, to either keep him on board or sign him if he happens to be looking for a new team during the 2014 off-season.

Joseph Barksdale will fill in as St. Louis’ starting right tackle. Barksdale held up surprisingly well after replacing Saffold on Thursday night against the Cleveland Browns.
