The Rogers Cup is nearing its end as we approach the fourth and final major of the year, the US Open, which starts on August 26. The semifinal matches for both the men’s and women’s side have been interesting ones to say the least. As a matter of fact, the whole tournament itself has been pretty interesting; we’ve seen withdrawals, injuries, and upsets.

Let’s start with the women’s semifinals matches of the tournament. One of the more interesting matches of the Rogers Cup thus far was between (1) Serena Williams and (3) Agnieszka Radwanska. Serena was able to win in straight sets, but she didn’t win it very easily; Radwanska put up a fight. The final score was 7-6(3), 6-4, in favor of the world’s number one. The other semifinal match was interesting in a different way. The match up was between (4) Li Na of China, and unseeded Sorana Cirstea of Romania. Many thought Li Na would be able to win this match and make it to the finals, however that was not the case today. Cirstea pulled of the upset, beating Na 6-1, 7-6(5).

The Women’s Final of the Rogers Cup will be (1)Serena Williams vs. Sorana Cirstea.

On the Men’s side of the tournament, we also  get the privilege of witnessing two great semifinals matches. So far, only one match has been completed. (11) Milos Raonic was able to beat out his fellow Canadian Vasek Pospisil, who had a great run to the semis. The match went the distance, with Raonic coming out on top after three sets, 6-4. 1-6, 7-6(4). The final and most important semifinal match of the day is still going on, with (1)Novak Djokovic currently losing to (4) Rafael Nadal after one set, 4-6.

I am expecting and hoping this match goes three sets as well, but we will just have to wait and see what happens, as Novak has the abilities to comeback from behind.
