Wayne Rooney confident move to Chelsea will go through, according to ESPN FC

ESPN FC has reported that Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is growing increasingly confident that Chelsea will be able to secure his transfer from his current club to resolve what has been a summer long saga at Old Trafford.

Even with Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho being rejected twice now by United after making bids for the striker, Rooney has reportedly told his teammates that he will be joining Chelsea, slapping his teammates in the face.

Several of the United squad are reportedly unhappy with Rooney, who has ignored their appeals to extend his nine-year stay with the Premier League champions, and their relationship has not improved with the attacker increasingly confident he will go.

United have insisted the 27-year-old is not for sale but Chelsea haven’t abandoned their pursuit of the former Everton player.

Sir Alex Ferguson said Rooney asked to leave United before the end of last season and while David Moyes has said he is keen to keep the forward, he remains unsettled.

Rooney has declined to participate in any of United’s friendly, opting to point to shoulder and hamstring injuries rather than face the music at Old Trafford. Rooney will likely sit out Sunday’s FA Community Shield against Wigan after missing the Rio Ferdinand Testimonial.

An upcoming England match against Scotland will be the first test to see if Rooney is simply refusing to play at United. He has been included in Roy Hodgson’s squad for the friendly against the Scots on Wednesday, if Rooney plays and performs well the rumors of him jumping ship to Chelsea might just be more likely than United is leading on.
