Kris Medlen extends his win streak to four in a straight as the Atlanta Braves beat the Philadelphia Phillies tonight, 3-1. Third baseman Chris Johnson also helped give the Braves the victory, as he belted a two run home run in the third inning.

According to ESPN.com,

"Medlen (10-10) appeared to be in danger of being sent to the bullpen one month ago. In late July, Tim Hudson was lost for the season with a broken right ankle and Paul Maholm went on the 15-day DL with a bruised left wrist."

It seems like Medlen’s starting job is safe for the time being, he has been a big contributor to the Braves’ pitching squad as of late. He left the game in the eigtgh inning as he opened it with walking Phillies catcher Erik Kratz.

Atlanta (73-47) sits atop the NL East, with a huge lead over what has been a dismal division thus far. They are 14.5 games ahead of the second place Washington Nationals, and the Braves are 27.5 games ahead of the last-place Miami Marlins.

The Phillies (53-66) are sitting in fourth place, currently 19.5 games out of first. The two teams will continue their series tomorrow, as they play each other at 7:05 PM EST.
