Los Angeles Lakers Kobe Bryant will not play in 2014 FIBA World Championships

Nobody was really expecting Los Angeles Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant to play in the 2014 FIBA World Championships, but the Black Mamba confirmed that notion – he will not be participating.

FIVE-TIME National Basketball Association (NBA) champion Kobe Bryant will no longer play for the US team in next year’s International Basketball Federation (Fiba) World Cup in Madrid, Spain.

“I love competing but I will let the young guys play and represent the country,” said Bryant, who donned the Team USA jersey in the Fiba Americas Championship in 2007, on Monday during an event promoting the latest Lenovo mobile phones at the Passion Restaurant at the Resorts World Manila in Pasay City.

Shockingly, despite Bryant’s global presence, the two-time Olympic gold medalist has never participated in the FIBA World Championships as he’s either been injured or had prior commitments which prevented him from taking part.

Kobe is just one of many players who is expected to turn down the invite as Chris Paul, LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony are all expected to decline.
