I’m going to take a stab in the dark and suggest Shaquille O’Neal doesn’t have inside information as to how Kobe Bryant‘s recovery is progressing, but he did tell the Los Angeles Times that he believes the Black Mamba will be on the court for the Lakers season opener.
Per Eric Pincus:
“I’m sure Kobe is going to come back early,” said Shaquille O’Neal in a video interview with Time Warner Cable SportsNet on Friday. “Anything before nine months is early. Him making the first game, I wish him well. He’s a very, very competitive kid. He loves the naysayers. He loves proving people wrong.
“When he put the rumor out there that he may be back the first game, best believe he’s trying to come back the first game,” continued O’Neal.
While doctors have all but said what Bryant is doing is impossible, that’s not a word in Kobe’s vocabulary as he’s been rehabbing at a near obsessive (and unhealthy) pace.
At this point, it would almost be shocking not to see Bryant on the court when the Los Angeles Lakers open their season October 29th, at home against the Los Angeles Clippers.
