Thanks to the New York Yankees giving Alex Rodriguez a ton of money, it was no doubt that baseball’s most hated player was going to team up with some of the best lawyers to fight against his 211-game ban.
His latest hire is Joe Tacopina. Ian Begley of ESPN New York gives us a description of the new defense lawyer.
[Tacopina] is known as a strong cross examiner. That strength may be vital for Team A-Rod if they chose to attack the credibility of Tony Bosch, the founder of Biogenesis. Bosch is believed to have cut a deal with Major League baseball and is one of the key cogs in baseball’s case against Rodriguez and the other 12 players suspended with ties to Biogenesis.
Tacopina will help with A-Rod’s appeal, and will likely be a role in suing MLB if they don’t reverse the ban.
Despite A-Rod being A-Rod is enough to hate the guy, it’s hard to argue that by not actually being tested positive for drugs, MLB doesn’t have grounds to sue the player for this many games, let alone it’s standard first offense of 50 games.
