Report: Wayne Rooney Not for Sale; What is Chelsea's Plan B?

After a summer of nonstop circulating rumors, it appeared as though a transfer that sent Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney to Chelsea would be the blockbuster deal that fans in Stamford Bridge have been hoping for all along.

However, according to The Guardian, United is not willing to allow Rooney to go elsewhere for any price this summer. If that is the case, Chelsea head coach Jose Mourinho will be forced to broaden his search to add firepower to his lineup.

Rumors are bound to be resurfaced and put to rest multiple times before the September 2 transfer deadline occurs, but as it stands now, Rooney will play out this season at Old Trafford.

If the reports are true and Rooney stays with United, Mourinho will be faced with an impossible decision. According to Chelsea boss, “It’s Rooney or bust.” While that seems dramatic, the statement may not be far from the truth.

With Fernando Torres, Demba Ba, Romelu Lukaku as their only note-worthy strikers, it appears that the final third may be the only part of the pitch that the Chelsea squad struggles in. After a horrific first campaign with the Blues, Torres bounced back and notched 23 goals a season ago, but it has yet to be seen which Torres will show up in year three.

Ba has struggled to live up to the expectations since his transfer from Newcastle United, and Lukaku is a raw talent that is barely out of his teens.

If Chelsea is forced to look elsewhere, they may turn their attention to Samuel Eto’o who is currently playing in Russia for Anzhi Makhachkala. However, the Evening Stanford has reported that Eto’o will remain in Russia despite the interest from Stamford Bridge.
