The Toronto Blue Jays have placed center fielder Colby Rasmus on the 15 day disabled list, retroactive to August 12th with a left oblique strain.
The injury was described as a tweaked abdominal muscle at first,, but an extended absence seemed very possible as it was revealed to be a strained oblique. A tough break for Rasmus who is having a good season with the Blue Jays.
Ramus has 18 home runs, 60 RBI’s and a batting average of .273 in 112 games this season for the Blue Jays.
Now with Ramus on the disabled list, the Blue Jays have purchased the contract of outfielder Kevin Pillar. Pillar batted .307/.353/.461 with nine home runs and 23 stolen bases in 123 games this season their Double and Triple-A clubs. The 24 year old prospect will be making his major league debut, as he could look to get quite a bit of playing time with Rasmus out.
The Jays have also called up fan favorite short stop Munenoria Kawasaki from Triple-A Las Vegas. Kawasaki is batting .213/.319./298 in 70 games with the Blue Jays this season. Kawasaki’s biggest hit this season was a walk off double against the Baltimore Orioles back in May.
