The New York Yankees have been red-hot since the acquisition of outfielder Alfonso Soriano, and he was hoping to help his new club score a fifth consecutive victory and four-game sweep of the visiting Los Angeles Angels entering today’s contest, but LA was able to use an eigth-inning explosion to down the Yanks by a score, and avoid the four-game sweep.

Angles pitcher C.J. Wilson went 6.2 innings while allowing just one-run, allowing LA to enter the eighth inning with a 3-1 lead before they erupted for five runs to break the game open.

The Angels are just happy to get out of New York and not have to see Soriano with a bat again after he single-handily dominated LA pitching. He homered twice and drove in six runs during New York’s 14-7 win over LA on Monday, then hit a grand slam among his two homers and had a career-high seven RBIs in Wednesday’s 11-3 victory.

Soriano fared well today, going 4/5 with an RBI.

Despite the loss, New York has won five of six after losing 17 of the past 26 games in what looked like the slump that drove the final nail in their coffin this year.
