Kevin Kolb missed a week of practice after tripping on a mat and dealing with a family affair. But the Buffalo Bills quarterback is back at practice and will start this week’s preseason game, and he is improving.

“Yesterday was a good day for me mentally and physically,” Kolb said, via the team’s website. “Obviously yesterday was a big improvement for me. I felt my feet get back underneath me. I was able to push the ball down the field a couple of times. I was happy with it.”

Head coach Doug Marrone isn’t looking for anything specific from Kolb as they relaunch their quarterback competition.

“I’m looking for him to play, play football really. Nothing specific,” said Marrone, via the team’s website. “I just wanted to make sure he was healthy and I asked him if he was healthy then here we go because obviously it’s a competition and we want to be equal. I told EJ, I said, ‘EJ it’s not a reflection on how you played. We thought you played really well for a guy that played his first NFL game.’”

“I’m very excited,” Kolb said. “I’m excited that my body is allowing me to and coach is allowing me to. Like I said, I have a chance to get out there and enjoy the fun with the guys and get this thing started.”
