Thursday was Ricky Williams’ first day as a college assistant coach, which is the start of a new career for the former NFL running back. He was introduced as the new running backs coach at the University of the Incarnate Word, located in San Antonio. During one of his first press conferences as a coach of the team, he was already being asked if he could envision himself beyond an assistant coach and becoming a head coach.
This my first experience coaching, but of course. Even when I was a kid growing up, I liked football players, but the people on the field that I idolized were actually the coaches.
According to an article on Sporting News, Williams was able to get letters of recommendation from both Mack Brown and Nick Saban before acquiring the job at UIW. It’s going to be a different experience for Williams, as he has always been on the field during his NFL career, never on the sidelines coaching the team. There is no doubt that he brings great experience and leadership to the team, but it will probably take a season or two for him to get accustomed to the coaching aspect of football.
What do you think about Williams’ most recent career choice? How do you think he will do? Let me know below!
