Houston Rockets center Omer Asik was not exactly thrilled when the team brought in fellow big man Dwight Howard through free agency. He was so upset in fact, he requested a trade, just one year after signing with the Rockets through free agency himself.
General manger Daryl Morey did his best damage control and apparently has cooled Asik off from his trade demand, potentially by suggesting that he’ll still get starter level minutes even with Howard on the roster. How’s that going to happen, exactly? By putting Howard at power forward, apparently.
Morey, who’s very open to social media recently took some Q&A on ReddIt and suggested that the Rockets are going to try and implement a game plan that will occasionally put Asik at center and Howard at power forward. If it works in training camp, they’ll roll it over into the season.
Coach McHale plans to experiment with Dwight at PF and Omer as C in training camp. If it works and helps us win, obviously we would look at using it.
