While Los Angeles Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant has been rehabbing at a near obsessive pace, he told the Associated Press that he’s currently unsure if he’ll be ready for opening night.

Per USA Today:

"Kobe Bryant isn’t sure he’ll be ready to play when the Los Angeles Lakers open the season on Oct. 29, although he remains ahead of schedule in rehabbing his surgically repaired Achilles’ tendon.Bryant turns 35 next week and he vows that his 17-year career is “definitely not over.”"

Doctors originally suggested that Bryant probably wouldn’t suit up until early 2014, though, hinted at a best case scenario being mid to late December of 2013. Bryant has essentially shattered that idea, leading many to believe he would return when the Lakers open the season in late October at home against the Los Angeles Clippers.

Former and current teammates (including Shaquille O’Neal and Steve Nash) have all but said Bryant would be ready for the opener, but Bryant himself is still unsure.

If Bryant isn’t ready for the opener, it’s still extremely likely he’ll still beat the original prognosis laid out by doctors.
