Tigers vs. Royals final score: Kansas City squeaks by Detroit, 2-1

The Detroit Tigers would like to get every win they can get against teams like KC in order to maintain their 6.5 game lead over the Cleveland Indians in the AL Central, so today’s day game against the Royals was a good chance to gain ground and give themselves some more breathing room.

But the royals had other plans in mind, as  Danny Duffy pitched six innings pf one-run baseball, and his bullpen shut down the Tigers the rest of the way to give KC a 2-1 victory.

KC third-baseman Emilio Bonifacio hit a homerun and a ground rule double to drive in the Royals’ only two runs of the game.

The Tigers have certainly fell back to earth after ripping off 16 wins in 17 games, a stretch that included a 12-game winning streak. Since then Detroit have dropped five out of eight games, and what looked like a runaway race in the AL Central

The two teams will square-off again tonight at 7 P.M. EST as part of a double-header with pitchers Jose Alvarez (DET) and James Shields (KC) on the hill.
