In what was one of the most wild NBA Drafts in recent memory, top overall pick Anthony Bennett believes he will be ready when the Cavaliers tip off their season October 30th at home against the new look Brookly Nets.
Per Jared Zwerling:
Spoke with No. 1 pick Anthony Bennett who had left labrum surgery on May 8. Said, “I’m pretty sure I’ll be back by the start of the season.”
What Bennett doesn’t say is if he’ll be ready for the start of the regular season or the start of the preseason, which begins October 8th.
Bennett has already missed the NBA Summer League and missing training camp along with the preseason would certainly be a hamper to the start of Bennett’s NBA career.
Of course, the Cavaliers want to take a cautious approach with their hopeful franchise big man, so they wont rush him back, though, both parties would obviously prefer he see the court before the season begins.
How the Cavaliers plan to use Bennett is unknown, given their excess of undersized big men. Either way, given his lofty draft status, it’s hard to imagine he wont see at minimum 20 minutes a night.
