Miami Dolphins to name Lamar Miller starting running back, Daniel Thomas goal line?

Just yesterday it was reported that the Miami Dolphins were thinking of going with the dreaded running back by committee approach but it appears they’ve had a change of heart. Or at least, that’s what beat writer Andrew Abramson is projecting.

According to Abramson, he feels the Dolphins will give Lamar Miller the ‘starting’ duties but will use Daniel Thomas in both third down and goal line scenarios.

Per the Palm Beach Post:

Lamar Miller will be the starter this season, but Daniel Thomas has been practicing well and will likely be the goal-line and third-down back. Miller said he wants to be an every-down back, and offensive coordinator Mike Sherman said recently that he could see Miller as a three-down guy. But Thomas is better in pass protection and is holding onto the ball in practice — fumbling was an issue for him in his first two seasons.

In all actuality, it’s not much different from the running back by committee approach, just that each player has a more defined role in the said scenario.

Hopefully it works for the Dolphins in real life, but fantasy players are certainly groaning at the thought.
