Florida State Seminoles defensive end Mario Edwards Jr. weighed a whopping 315 pounds when he arrived in Tallahassee last fall. Now he’s down to a lean 278 and has his eyes set on dominating the competition this year.
Edwards says he had to put in a lot of effort to change his unhealthy attitude towards food:
I was the type (that) just ’cause it’s lunch time, I’m going to eat. Just ’cause it’s dinner time, I’m going to eat. It wasn’t just eating until I was OK. I would eat to get full. So I really just had to change and train my stomach to eat ’til I’m satisfied.
If I’m gonna eat fries, don’t get a big plate of fries. Get a little portion of it. No super-sizing it (USA Today Sports).
Now at a better playing weight, Edwards says he’s ready to demonstrate the on-field talents that made him the top prospect in the nation coming out of high school. The Seminoles open their season against the Pittsburgh Panthers on Monday, Nov. 2.
