Alabama Crimson Tide cornerback Geno Smith arrested for DUI

Alabama Crimson Tide sophomore cornerback Geno Smith (no relation) was arrested early on Sunday morning for driving under the influence. His bond was set at $1,000 by the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.

Smith was a four-star prospect coming out of high school in Georgia and played in 13 games last season during the Tide’s run the the national championship. His statistics weren’t phenomenal — nine tackles and two pass break-ups — but he was expected to see an increased amount of playing time in 2013.

Alabama head coach Nick Saban released a brief statement about the incident:

This is obviously not the kind of behavior we expect from our players. I don’t have all of the details at this point and will handle it appropriately once I’ve had a chance to review the information (

This weekend has not been a good one for fans of the Iron Bowl, with Auburn safety Demetruce McNeal having been dismissed from the Tigers’ football team after a marijuana related arrest.

Bench him for the rest of the season. We have got to set an example. To many getting in trouble of late, they need to realize playing for Bama Is a privilege.
