Alabama Crimson Tide sophomore cornerback Geno Smith (New York Jets quarterback competition is still open” href=”http://fansided.com/2013/08/18/geno-smith-says-new-york-jets-quarterback-competition-is-still-open/”>no relation) was arrested early on Sunday morning for driving under the influence. His bond was set at $1,000 by the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.
Smith was a four-star prospect coming out of high school in Georgia and played in 13 games last season during the Tide’s run the the national championship. His statistics weren’t phenomenal — nine tackles and two pass break-ups — but he was expected to see an increased amount of playing time in 2013.
Alabama head coach Nick Saban released a brief statement about the incident:
This is obviously not the kind of behavior we expect from our players. I don’t have all of the details at this point and will handle it appropriately once I’ve had a chance to review the information (AL.com).
