Houston Rockets close to signing guard Ronnie Brewer

With hopes of improving their wing depth, the Houston Rockets are close to agreeing with veteran swingman Ronnie Brewer on a contract.

Details of the contract have yet to be released, though given Houston’s hefty payroll the deal shouldn’t be worth much more than the veteran minimum and be a year in length, possibly with a second year player option.

Per ESPN’s Marc Stein:

Houston Rockets, I’m told, are wrapping up a deal with free agent Ronnie Brewer

Brewer split last season between the New York Knicks and Oklahoma City Thunder, though experienced his best years as a member of the Utah Jazz where he was one of the better bench players in the league.

An addition of Brewer would give the Rockets depth and insurance on the wing where outside of James Harden and Chandler Parsons, they don’t have much.

After leaving Utah in 2009-10, Brewer has bounced around and struggled compared to the consistent play he provided as a member of the Jazz. The Rockets are hopeful he’ll have a bounce back season in Clutch City.
