Kirk Cousins diagnosed with mid-foot sprain

Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins suffered a foot injury during the second quarter of the team’s preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. With starting quarterback Robert Griffin III’s status still uncertain, Cousins was serving as the starer but that could be in jeopardy for a remainder of the preseason.

Cousins limped off the field and made his way back to the locker room after being dragged down by the sidelines during a scramble midway through the quarter.

After the medical staff looked at Cousins, who initially tried to walk off the injury, he was pulled for the remainder of the game.

X-rays on Cousins injured foot came back negative, but he was diagnosed with a mid-foot sprain.

Negative x-rays are obviously a positive sign, but Cousins isn’t out of danger just yet. Foot sprains could take a few weeks to fully recover from, so it is very likely that Cousins will be shut down for the remainder of the preseason if not longer.

Of course, there is also the dreaded Lisfranc injury that has not yet been ruled out. If Cousins received that diagnosis, he would miss a majority of the regular season.

The news is currently positive, but we wouldn’t celebrate just yet.
