Linebacker Jake Ryan was a beast for the Michigan Wolverines in 2012, earning second-team All-Big Ten honors from the media. Unfortunately, Ryan tore his ACL in the spring and is expected to miss games until October.
However, his position coach at Michigan, Roy Manning, says Ryan is as tough and committed as they come, adding that he wouldn’t be surprised to see the linebacker return to action even sooner:
To me, it’s like he’s not even injured. He’s there all the time, he’s into it; I don’t think he’s lost a beat. Jake’s one of those guys where I wouldn’t be surprised if he made an earlier return. I’ll be looking forward to that.
He’s got his mind so set on getting back here as soon as he can, and obviously, when you get into the meat of that Big Ten schedule, he definitely can help us during that time (Detroit Free Press).
The Wolverines will open the 2012 season by playing Central Michigan, Notre Dame, Akron, and Connecticut. Their first conference game is on Oct. 5 against the Minnesota Golden Gophers.
