Cleveland Browns name Brandon Weeden starting quarterback

The Cleveland Browns have named Brandon Weeden their starting quarterback. It ends a competition between Weeden and NFL veteran Jason Campbell.

Through two preseason games Weeden has completed 18 of 25 passes, 72%, for 229 yards and three touchdowns. He also hasn’t thrown an interception. That’s a big improvement over his rookie season where he completed 57.4% of his passes with 17 touchdowns and 15 interceptions.

“Brandon has earned this job,” head coach Rob Chuzkinski said Tuesday, per Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. “He’s gained my complete trust. I felt like the timing was right.”

“I’m excited moving forward, it’s very rewarding,” Weeden said.

“I’ve always believed in guys earning things. He’s gone out and he’s earned it,” Chuzkinski said.
