Atlanta Braves outfielder Jason Heyward left Wednesday’s 4-1 victory over the New York Mets after being hit by a pitch. Mets left-hander Jonathan Niese hit Heyward in the jaw with a 90-mile per hour fastball during the sixth inning.

After being hit, Heyward hit the ground and remained down for about three minutes or so before Braves players and trainers finally helped him to his feet. He eventually left the field under his own power.

According to the Associated Press, Heyward was taken to a nearby New York hospital for x-rays an inning later after being examined by Mets doctors.

Heyward, who was recently moved to the leadoff spot and has been on absolute tear at the plate since, was 0-for-2 in the game Wednesday.

The 24-year old Heyward, who is now batting .253 on the season, was replaced in the game by 26-year old Jordan Schafer. Schafer was 1-for-2 with a single in the game.
