Dallas Cowboys linebacker Sean Lee has agree to a six-year contract extension.

Lee’s representation, former scout Mike McCartney, broke the news via twitter.

The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports the deal is worth $7 million a year with escalators to $8.5 million.

Lee returned to action in the preseason after playing in just six games last season. Lee injured his big toe during the third quarter of a week seven 19-14 victory over the Carolina Panthers last season. Through six games, Lee had 58 tackles, one forced fumble and an interception.

Lee was the 55th overall pick of the 2010 draft out of Penn State and has spent his entire career with the Cowboys.

After a promising rookie season that saw Lee make 32 stops, grab two interceptions, force a fumble and even score a touchdown, Lee blossomed in year two once he became a full time starter. During the 2011 season, he had 105 tackles, two fumble recoveries, four interceptions and seven passes defended. Fantastic numbers from a coverage linebacker.

Lee’s Cowboys will host the Cincinnati Bengals Saturday night at 8:00 pm EST and kick off the regular season Sunday, September 8 when they host the rival New York Giants in the first Sunday night football game of the year (8:30 pm EST, NBC).
