Getting the wrong quarterback can be a fantasy football nightmare. While running backss and big-name wide receivers get all the early-round love, it’s vital that you get a solid signal-caller who gives you consistent points and has a few weeks where he goes off and carries you.

Since most leagues only start one quarterback, it is ok to wait and get one later in your draft, but it is even more important at that point that you choose wisely and get the right guy.

Here are 5 quarterbacks that I think are overrated based on where they are currently going in mock drafts I’ve done and the few early drafts I’ve participated in. These players definitely have value–they’re not total bums–but I value the other players drafted around the same time as them or even after them more than them. As a result, I’m not landing these quarterbacks in any league.

I have all these quarterbacks as non-starters in standard one-quarterback leagues. Some of them are decent QB2 options, but they are go way too early for where I think they’ll finish the year.

Just to give us a common measuring stick, all stats used are based on ESPN standard scoring.

Let me know your reaction in the comments at the bottom of the page and make sure to keep checking back throughout the preseason as we look at five overrated and five underrated in as many positions as we can.

Here’s my five overrated fantasy quarterbacks starting in New York, but not with Mark Sanchez…
