After Bellator decided to dissolve their women’s division by releasing the final three women on their roster — Felice Herrig, Jessica Aguilar and Jessica Eye — the speculation began to swirl about where each fighter would land. Herrig wasted no time signing with Invicta FC and Aguilar is expected to follow, but Eye can fight in the women’s bantamweight division so the road to the UFC was paved.
Late Tuesday night, the move was finally made official.
It was announced on UFC Tonight on FOX Sports 2 that Eye has signed a multi-fight contract with the top promotion in the world. With the Cleveland based fighter under contract, the UFC is working on scheduling a bout with Sarah Kaufman.
Eye (10-1) is riding a seven-fight win streak and the bout against Kaufman would be the biggest fight of her career. A win over Kaufman, who is considered one of the top contenders for the women’s bantamweight belt, could put her in great position to get a crack at champion Ronda Rousey.
Kaufman (16-2) was previously matched up against Olympic medalist Sara McMann (7-0) in a No. 1 contenders match that was set for next week’s UFC Fight Night 27 in Indianapolis, but an injury forced McMann from the bout.
With Kaufman now available, the bout with Eye would make perfect sense.
