The Wisconsin Badgers will open up the next two college football seasons with a dominant SEC opponent. In 2015, they’ll take on the Alabama Crimson Tide in Arlington, Texas. But first, they’re heading to Houston, Texas, in 2014 to take on the LSU Tigers.
Both schools finally reached an agreement on Friday, and an official announcement was released on the Badgers’ athletic website.
After months of speculation, it is finally official. The Wisconsin football team will face LSU in the AdvoCare Texas Kickoff on Aug. 30, 2014 at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas. The game is the final missing piece to the Badgers’ 2014 schedule, which is now complete.
“This is a tremendous opportunity for us to open next season against one of the best programs in the country,” UW head coach Gary Andersen said. “We want to compete at the highest level and on a national stage and this game is a great example of that.”
No kickoff time has been officially announced, and the annual event will be televised on an ESPN network. Most likely, it will be on either ESPN or ABC in primetime.
The game against LSU makes the Badgers’ strength of their non-conference schedule shift dramatically as they take on Western Illinois, Bowling Green, and South Florida afterwards. That can be said for the Tigers as well with Sam Houston State, Louisiana-Monroe, and New Mexico State filling out their non-conference slate.
