It looks like Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Wandy Rodriguez will not be returning this season.
Rodriguez was set to go through a simulated game on Thursday and it did not go as well as hoped. Rodriguez felt some discomfort in his left forearm earlier in the week during a bullpen session, but he still went ahead with the sim game and now the left-handed pitcher is set to visit one of the top doctors known to sports fans.
Tom Singer of MLB.com reported that Rodriguez will be meeting with world renowned surgeon Dr. James Andrews at some point early next week.
It is a clear sign that Rodriguez is not going to be able to return by the end of the season, but the real question will be whether or not he will be undergoing Tommy John surgery at any point before the next season rolls around.
The Buccos will be on the book for $7.5 million of his $13 million player option if it is picked up for next year.
