It’s been a rough year for the San Francisco Giants and starting pitcher Matt Cain.

After sweeping the Detroit Tigers last October en route to their second World Series victory in three years, the Giants have fallen on hard times – currently among the worst teams (record wise) in baseball.

Vaulted starter Matt Cain is one of the many Giants who’ve struggled to perform up to expectations, especially during the first half of the season where he posted an uncharacteristic 5.05 ERA.

Cain has returned to form in the second half, posting a much more expected 2.84 ERA, but received quite the scare last night as he was hit flush in the forearm by a screaming line drive.

The Giants’ horse did his best to convince manager Bruce Bochy that he’d be fine, but the skipper wasn’t having it and immediately removed Cain for precautionary reasons.

Cain underwent tests after the game but the x-rays came back negative thankfully, but it’s unknown if Cain will make his next start.

"“We’re not going to take any chances,I’ll say that,” Bochy said. “He’s going to have to have a tremendous recovery and not feel anything.”Hours after getting hit Thursday, Cain’s arm was still buzzing.“It caught me pretty good,” Cain said. “It hit me right in the meaty part of the arm.”"
