Medical staff tells Joe Mauer of Minnesota Twins to 'take it easy'

We may or may not have seen the last of Joe Mauer behind the plate for the Minnesota Twins.

The longtime catcher suffered yet another concussion last week and concern continues to grow that Mauer could be facing serious injury if he continues to catch, promoting the Twins front office and coaching staff to discuss a potential move to first base.

Mauer of course wants to continue to catch as any catcher would, but he wont be doing so in the near future – actually – he won’t even be seeing the field.

The former batting champion was hopeful that he’d be able to return to the field as soon as Monday but team doctor’s have told Mauer that he needs to ‘take it easy’ for at least the next few days.

Per LaVelle E. Neal:

Joe Mauer has been told to take it easy until Tuesday. That ends any chance of him playing in the Royals series next Tues-Thurs.

Concussions and catching aren’t to be taken lightly as many backstop’s have had their careers ended due to head injuries, so the Twins are taking a very cautious approach with Mauer.
