The Milwaukee Bucks selected Giannis Antetokounmpo in the first round of the 2013 NBA Draft and fans of the team immediately said, “Crap. How am I supposed to ever pronounce this guy’s name?”
Well, they shouldn’t feel too bad.
When you get a Greek player of Nigerian descent, you can expect an unfamiliar name, especially for people in Milwaukee, but it looks like people in his home country also have some trouble spitting out the pronunciation of his name with the wild letter combination.
Can you blame them?
This reminds me of Tshimanga Biakabutuka all over again. Football fans eventually gave up and just went with calling him “Tim”, so we can expect a much shorter version of Giannis Antetokounmpo.
