Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez is “day to day” with shoulder injury
By Stu White
New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez has been listed as “day to day” after suffering an injury to his right shoulder on Saturday night in a game against the New York Giants. Sanchez will not play on Thursday against the Philadelphia Eagles.
The injury was sustained in the fourth quarter on a hit from defensive tackle Marvin Austin. The fact that Sanchez was still in the game at such a meaningless juncture has sparked some criticism of head coach Rex Ryan, because criticizing Rex Ryan is, like, our third national pastime behind baseball and the Kardashians. (Rex Ryan’s interview after the game is a thing of beauty if you haven’t seen it yet.)
The quarterback battle in New York has been a hot topic this offseason, especially after the mediocre year Sanchez had in 2012. Those hoping to see rookie Geno Smith be given the starting job might be disappointed, however. Smith was awful in Saturday’s game, throwing three interceptions and recording a safety.
