Landon Donovan led the Los Angeles Galaxy to a 1-0 lead over the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday as the team continued to make coach Bruce Arena proud as they begin their full charge towards the end of the season.
Not only did the win help Los Angeles’ chances in for the Western Conference lead, but it hurt the Whitecaps hopes of making the playoffs.
After the loss, Vancouver was positioned outside of the postseason in the updated standings.
While the win for Los Angeles was great for the squad, it a big goal for Donovan as well as it puts him less than five goals away from taking over as the MLS all-time goals leader. Donovan currently sits in third place with 131 MLS career goals behind Jaime Moreno (133) and Jeff Cunnigham (134).
With a few more strong outings, the record will be Donovan’s to claim and just the latest record to add to his incredible career on the MLS pitch. There is no doubt Donovan is one of the greatest American’s to ever play the game.
