The New Orleans Saints’ defense suffered a hit when linebacker Will Smith went down with a knee injury. That knee injury, which he suffered in Sunday’s preseason game agains the Houston Texans, has essentially ended his season according to a source for Pro Football Talk.
“Per a league source, linebacker Will Smith is out for the year with a knee injury,” Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk writes.
As of right now there aren’t many other details surrounding the injury and what exactly the issue is. Saints defensive coordinator Rob Ryan was the scapegoat for the the Dallas Cowboys 2012 season’s shortcomings and ultimately fired. Ryan blamed the team and defense’s struggles on health issues. This season he is slated to start short manned again.
Aside from Smith, Victor Butler is out as well.
Smith was moving from defensive end to outside linebacker as they switched from a 4-3 scheme to a 3-4 one.
