The New York Jets have released 14 players.

  • OG Stephen Peterman
  • WR Joe Collins
  • S Donnie Fletcher
  • OG Patrick Ford
  • OT Trey Gilleo
  • S Bret Lockett
  • LB Sean Progar-Jackson
  • P Ryan Quigley
  • WR Marcus Rucker
  • LS Patrick Scales
  • RB Chad Spann
  • WR K.J. Stroud
  • WR Rahsaan Vaughn
  • RB Joe McKnight

Unfortunately for Jets fans, none of those players released were Mark Sanchez.

The headline of this group might be running back Joe McKnight. He entered camp on the roster bubble and was barely able to participate in summer workouts due to injuries. The Jets were looking to fill a hole at the position created by the departure of Shonn Greene.

Guard Stephen Peterman is the another notable name. He never challenged for a spot really despite being an anchor on the line for the Detroit Lions in 16 games last season. His play has declined in recent seasons and he is facing his 31st birthday.

Coach Rex Ryan referred to running back Chad Spann as that “MJD” guy earlier in camp. The 5-foot-9 198 pound back didn’t make an impact in the preseason really.
