The Philadelphia Eagles have decided to rest Michael Vick in the fourth and final preseason game. That means Nick Foles will start in his place. Foles impressed in his last performance but Michael Vick still won the competition.

After New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan decided to play Mark Sanchez with the second team to give Geno Smith an opportunity to start and show off his abilities. All in an effort to keep the quarterback competition fair. Smith responded by throwing three interceptions and Mark Sanchez was leveled by Marvin Austin as he scrambled outside the pocket.

The Eagles aren’t looking to make the same mistake.

From NFL.com:

"Kelly announced at his press conference on Monday that starters will not play Thursday against the New York Jets. Nick Foles will start in place of Michael Vick at quarterback. Some “starting” members of the secondary might play because the situation is so unsettled."

The fourth preseason game is basically a throw away game. It is used more to evaluate players on the bubble who may or may not make the final 53 man roster and to determine who might be worth keeping around on the practice squad.

Therefore, risking Michael Vick’s health by playing him would be foolish. Especially considering his injury history.
