The Miami Dolphins placed the franchise tag on defensive tackle Randy Starks, a two time Pro Bowler. Despite paying Starks $8.45 million this season the Dolphins are going to have Starks coming off the bench and not starting.
“I’ve been there before,” Starks said, via the Sun-Sentinel. “I’m not going to say nothing bad about it. It is what it is. I wasn’t here so I guess this is my punishment.”
Stark missed organized team activities to try and force the team to give him, or at least negotiate, a long-term multi-year contract. He did show up for the mandatory mini-camp. The Dolphins will use a three-man rotation with Paul Soliai and Jared Odrick.
“The year I was a backup I was one of the most dominant players on the defensive line,” he said. “If that’s the case I have the potential do it again.”
Sun-Sentinel writer Chris Perkins says that amonst the three man rotation at defensive tackle “the number of snaps each plays should be fairly equal.”
