The other day New Jersey governor, and Dallas Cowboys fan, Chris Christie called the New York Daily News’ reporter Manish Mehta an idiot during an appearance on radio station WFAN-AM.

“Idiot. The guy’s a complete idiot,” Christie said. “Self-consumed, underpaid, reporter. The only reason he’s empowered is we’re spending all this time this morning talking about Manish Mehta who, by the way, I couldn’t pick out of a police lineup.”

“We shouldn’t be giving this dope (Mehta) the amount of airtime we’ve given him already,” Christie said.

The New York Daily News is defending their guy and blasting the governor.

Manish Mehta hasn’t addressed the cover on his twitter account and neither has the NYDN.

NYDN writer Mike Lupica did stand up for his colleague though:

“The biggest guy in the Republican Party may have thought he was being a standup guy for his friend Rex Ryan. He ended up looking small instead, talking about Mehta’s salary — Manish is probably in perfect agreement with him there, probably thinks he is underpaid — and acting as if it is somehow relevant information that he couldn’t pick our pro football writer out of a police lineup.”
