The New York Jets have released kicked Billy Cundiff and turned around and signed Dan Carpenter. The New York Jets also have kicker Nick Folk still on the roster.

Billy Cundiff went 3-for-3 in preseason kicks for the Jets including a game winner over the New York Jets in an overtime preseason game.

Dan Carpenter however has had a more eventful preseason. This will be his third NFL team in a month. Carpenter has already been cut by the Arizona Cardinals and Miami Dolphins. He still has to beat out incumbent Nick Folk in a less than a week.

The NFL requires teams to trim their rosters to 53 players by Saturday, August, 31st.

Folk converted 21 of 27 field goals last year for a 77.8% rate. He missed field goals of multiple lengths but was fairly consistent. Carpenter doesn’t have much time to impress the team. The Jets final preseason game is against the Philadelphia Eagles at MetLife Stadium Thursday night. Surely he will get some playing time so the team can asses him.
