Rafael Nadal might have hit the shot of the U.S. Open tournament already. American Ryan Harrison has Nadal on the run and lobs a ball in the air. Harrison is waiting to smash it and collect the point, Nadal is reading it all the way and is already sprinting from one corner to the other even before he hit it.
Harrison should’ve gone back to where Nadal was originally since he was already cheating towards the other corner. Nevertheless Harrison smashed it and Nadal returned it way off the court, some how the ball curves back and lands in the corner past Harrison for the point.
It doesn’t even look like it went over the net and bent around the pole before landing in the court. It is a remarkable strike and reminds me of the famous bending soccer free kicks.
to Cork Gaines for spotting this first and to Deadspin
