Arizona Diamondbacks announcer calls Paul Goldschmidt, Paul Golds**t

I don’t envy announcers.

While you have your standard names that are easy to pronounce, say like Matt Kemp or Brandon Belt, often times you’re hit with some real knee knockers.

Granted, you are given a pronunciation sheet prior to every game but that doesn’t exactly help when you’re not looking at it.

Of course, if you’re like the Arizona Diamondbacks’ Steve Berthiaume, you might just have a flub on a name you’ve said hundreds of times throughout the season. It just so happens that the flub is a cuss word.

During a recent broadcast where the D’Backs were taking on the San Diego Padres, both Berthiaume (yes, the guy who formerly hosted Baseball Tonight on ESPN) and former player and manager Bob Brenly were giving their pre-game warmup, the focus of which was first baseman Paul Goldschmidt.

As a San Francisco Giant fan, I’m well aware of the struggles one might encounter with the name ‘Schmidt’ as I watched Jason Schmidt mow down hitters for a few years in orange and black. It’s apparently not a word Berthiaume has mastered as during their pregamer, Goldschmidt was referred to as ‘Goldshit’.

I’m sure the FCC will have a fun time with that one.

This is the second time in about a month Steve has said sh*t live. There was another video where he said “Are you shi**ing me?” to Bob after Bob mentioned a Dodger name.
