Finally! The wait is over! Now we can all move on with our lives.
(You know, unless Kessler has a bad outing and the debate is reignited.)
USC Trojans head coach Lane Kiffin has taken his sweet time in naming a starting quarterback, but he’s finally settled on Cody Kessler. Kessler completed two passes for nine yards last season; his competition, Max Wittek, was 36-for-69 in 2012, racking up 388 passing yards with five touchdowns. However, the Trojans lost both games Wittek started in (against Notre Dame and against Georgia Tech in the Sun Bowl).
Kiffin spoke about his indecisiveness, saying it was a product of how evenly matched Kessler and Wittek were during training camp:
That really is how well both guys did. For us, we look at it as a great thing. We’ve got two guys that we feel great about. We don’t feel like we have to limit our offense with either one of them in there (ESPN).
The Trojans are heavy favorites against Hawaii. One bit of advice for the young Kessler: just throw the ball in the vicinity of Marqise Lee.
